Keeneland Presents American Graded Stakes Standings: Leading Broodmare Sires

Over the past couple of weeks, we've looked at the leaders of different divisions of the American Graded Stakes Standings of 2017. This week, we'll look at broodmare sires.

The stallions that ranked among the top five broodmare sires of AGS winners are familiar names, although a couple may come as a surprise. As he has for the past four years, the venerable A.P. Indy tops the list with 14 individual graded stakes winners. Of that number, three were Grade 1 winners – Bolt d’Oro (Del Mar Futurity, FrontRunner Stakes), Dickinson (Jenny Wiley) and Cloud Computing (Preakness Stakes).

Unbridled's Song finished in the second spot with 10 individual graded stakes winners. Of those, two were G1 winners – Unique Bella (La Brea Stakes) and Moonshine Memories (Del Mar Debutante, Chandelier Stakes).

Awesome Again had six individual graded stakes winners in 2017, placing him in third. He did not have any Grade 1 winners.

Two stallions had five individual graded stakes winners – Distorted Humor and Giant’s Causeway. All five of Distorted Humor’s winners captured Grade 1’s – Arrogate (Pegasus World Cup), Elate (Alabama, Beldame), New Money Honey (Belmont Oaks Invitational), Takaful (Vosburgh) and Practical Joke (H. Allen Jerkens Memorial).

Giant’s Causeway had three G1 winners – Gun Runner (Breeders’ Cup Classic, Stephen Foster, Whitney, Woodward), Free Drop Billy (Breeders’ Futurity) and Romantic Vision (Spinster Stakes).
