Dynamic Sky rallied to win the Red Smith Handicap at Aqueduct

Although Dynamic Sky had been winless in five previous tries on the turf, it really seemed to be just a matter of time before he found his way to the winner’s circle. After all, the 4-year-old colt had finished second in the G1 Northern Dancer Stakes and third in the G1 Pattison Canadian International this season.

Dynamic Sky finally earned his first turf victory last Saturday at Aqueduct, as he rallied up the rail to capture the G3 Red Smith Handicap by 1 ¼ lengths. The son of Sky Mesa provided owner John Oxley with his fifth graded stakes winner in 2014, moving him into a tie for fifth on the American Graded Stakes Standings owner list.

In addition to Dynamic Sky, Oxley’s light blue and yellow silks have been seen aboard Dynamic Impact (G3 Illinois Derby), Sky Captain (G3 Dominion Day), Spring in the Air (G3 Hendrie), and Skyway (G2 Best Pal).

Dynamic Sky, coupled with Hillaby’s win in the G2 Bessarabian, provided trainer Mark Casse with his 11th and 12th graded stakes winners of the year. That moved the Woodbine-based conditioner into fifth on the AGS trainer list.

Casse has had another productive year, sending out additional graded stakes winners Conquest Harlanate (G2 Natalma, G3 Mazarine), Conquest Typhoon (G2 Summer Stakes), Dynamic Impact (G3 Illinois Derby), Florida Won (G3 Ontario Derby), Kaigun (G2 Play the King Stakes), Lexie Lou (G3 Autumn Miss), Sisterly Love (G3 Doubledogdare), Sky Captain (G3 Dominion Day), Skyway (G2 Best Pal), and Spring in the Air (G3 Hendrie).
