Breeders’ Cup Presents The News Minute: What We Learned On Future Stars Friday

Irad Ortiz Jr. celebrates Forte’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile victory

Under sunny skies and unseasonably warm temperatures, a crowd of nearly 40,000 was on hand at Keeneland race course in Lexington, Ky., for the Future Stars Friday program to kick off the 39th Breeders' Cup world championships.

Five Grade 1 Breeders' Cup contests – all for 2-year-olds – anchored the 10-race program that saw a record $66 million wagered – a 7 percent increase from the 2021 Future Stars Friday at Del Mar in California.

In today's News Minute, Ray Paulick reviews what we learned in those five races, three run on the turf (the Juvenile Turf Sprint, Juvenile Fillies Turf, and Juvenile Turf) and two on dirt – the Juvenile and Juvenile Fillies that were part of the original seven races offered when the Breeders' Cup was first run in 1984.
