The Friday Show Presented By Woodbine: Track Announcer Chris Griffin On Parx Racing’s Big Day

Chris Griffin, track announcer at Parx Racing

The Founding Fathers met in Philadelphia from May to September 1787 to draft a Constitution that's been the guiding light for our country's democracy. Gouverneur Morris put the finishing touches on the document with a Preamble that begins, “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union …”

Two-hundred thirty-five years later, We the People – a colt by a sire named Constitution – heads to Parx Racing, just north of Philadelphia, to take on 10 other 3-year-olds in the Grade 1, $1 million Pennsylvania Derby. The Derby is the marquee event on the track's biggest card of the year: 13 races, five graded stakes that includes another $1 million fixture, the G1 Cotillion Stakes for 3-year-old fillies.

Parx Racing announcer Chris Griffin joins publisher Ray Paulick and bloodstock editor Joe Nevills to analyze the Derby and Cotillion, with Griffin suggesting We the People may be the sleeper in the race as potentially the only speed horse in the line-up. So We the People could be much more than a hunch play for Constitutional  scholars.

A rising star in the announcer's booth, Griffin also talks about the journey that's had him calling races in California, Oregon, Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania, and New York. You can follow him on Twitter at @Inthegrandstand.
