Hurricane Helene made landfall as a category 4 hurricane on September 26, 2024, bringing with her high winds and rainfall that caused massive flooding across the southeastern United States; Georgia and Western North Carolina were particularly damaged from the storm, reports EQUUS magazine.

Entire communities washed away in raging flood waters; the amount of damage is nearly incomprehensible and the death toll continues to rise. Many people are unable to be reached, living above areas that have been affected by mudslides. These people are virtually cut off from the world, with no cell phone service, electricity, water, food or passable roadways.

The Mountain Mule Packer Ranch in Mount Ulla, North Carolina, specializes in tactical mule packing. They have deployed strings of their mules from multiple staging areas in an effort to tote supplies to extremely difficult-to-reach locations; each mule can carry 200 pounds of supplies, including food, water, medical supplies and baby items.

The Mountain Mule Packer Ranch is asking for donations and to be made aware of areas with specific needs; they can pack in supplies or pack in already-gathered items. They can be contacted at 910-885-1402.
