Pittsburgh Police Welcome Tall, Dark And Handsome New Officer
Stunningly beautiful, the new officer on the Pittsburgh police force is sure to attract attention when he begins patrolling the streets; weighing 1,800 pounds, he is a force to be reckoned with, as well. Guinness, a 17.3-hand draft-cross, is the first equine the city has owned since its mounted patrol was disbanded in 2003 because of budget cuts.
The city has been searching for draft horses and draft-horse crosses that are between 5 and 10 years old to add to its revitalized mounted patrol. The city also would like for the horse to have some police horse training.
Guinness is a Paint/Percheron cross; a member of the mounted patrol has been taking lessons on him since he was purchased from a private owner.
