'A Really Exciting Stallion': Bret Jones Of Airdrie Stud Discusses Share In Leading Freshman Complexity At Fasig-Tipton Saratoga

Share in leading freshman sire Complexity will be offered on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale.

No freshman sire has gotten off to a hotter start in 2024 than Airdrie Stud's Complexity, and buyers have a chance to purchase a share in him on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale.

The 8-year-old son of Maclean's Music is North America's leading or co-leading freshman sire - and overall sire of 2-year-olds - by winners (12), stakes winners (three), graded winners (two), and earnings ($833,873).

His runners have been led domestically by Mo Plex, the winner of the Grade 3 Sanford Stakes, and he received a massive international resume boost on Thursday when Black Forza took the G2 Richmond Stakes at Goodwood in the U.K.

"We've never had a horse do that by Aug. 1, and obviously it's got us about as excited as we could be," said Airdrie Stud president Bret Jones.

What's being offered during Tuesday's session of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale is one share in the 40-share syndicate for Complexity, entitling the owner to one nomination to the stallion per season in perpetuity. Shareholders also receive a split in the revenue generated by other nominations that are sold for Complexity.

"What we certainly think we're offering is a chance to get in on the ground floor of a really, really exciting stallion, and we all know what that ceiling can look like," Jones said. "Who in the world knows if we're headed in that direction, but he's sure given us every reason that he could be. I think this is a great opportunity for somebody to invest in a horse that not only throws these obviously impressive runners, but gets a really beautiful commercial horse."

Complexity won five of 10 starts during his on-track career, earning $616,350.

As a juvenile, Complexity broke his maiden at Saratoga, and later won the G1 Champagne Stakes. He won the G2 Kelso Handicap at age four.

Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, Complexity is out of the Yes It's True mare Goldfeld, making him a half-brother to Grade 3 winner and graded stakes producer Valadorna.
