The younger Sherman was instrumental in the son of Lucky Pulpit's global campaign, which saw him win the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, the Dubai World Cup, and Eclipse Awards as Horse of the Year in 2014 and 2016, en route to earning $14,752,650 on the racetrack. Sherman has remained close to the barn's former star since the horse retired to Taylor Made Stallions in Nicholasville, Ky., for the 2017 breeding season, and he has worked for Taylor Made's sales consignment wing. Duncan Taylor, president of the Taylor Made operation, told HRN he approached Sherman about accompanying California Chrome on his trip to Japan and the horseman accepted. California Chrome is expected to depart for Japan on Jan. 5 or 6. California Chrome's sale to stand at Arrow Stud in Japan was announced in late November. His first foals will be 2-year-olds of 2020, and his debut fee at Arrow Stud will be 4 million yen (about $36,500). Read more at Horse Racing Nation.
