First Foal Is A Filly For Late New York Stallion Combatant by Paulick Report Staff|01.23.2023|1:04pm The first foal by late Rockridge Stud resident Combatant, a filly out of Sadie’s Song. Grade 1 winner Combatant's first foal at stud was born Jan. 21, when Sadie's Song produced a filly at Waldorf Farm in Valatie, N.Y., bred by McConnell Racing. Combatant, a son of Scat Daddy, stood his lone Northern Hemisphere season at Rockridge Stud in Hudson, N.Y., then died suddenly of colic while standing the Southern Hemisphere season at Haras Porta Pia in Chile. He covered 85 mares at Rockridge Stud to comprise what will be his only U.S.-sired crop. A winner in four of 30 starts for earnings of $1,062,915, Combatant earned his biggest career victory in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap in 2020. He placed in six further graded stakes races on both dirt and turf, and he ran in the 2018 Kentucky Derby. Sadie's Song is an unplaced 15-year-old Unbridled's Song mare who ran for McConnell Racing in partnership with Team Stallion Racing Corp. Her top runner to date is six-figure earner J C's Not Brown, a New York-bred son of Big Brown.
