First Foals Arrive For Belmont Stakes Winner Tapwrit
Record-setting Grade 1 winner and millionaire Tapwrit sired his first foals this week. The first of these, a colt out of Anna Elizabeth (Animal Kingdom), was born at Waymore Farms on Jan. 27 in Kentucky.
The very next day saw the birth of two more newly-minted Tapwrits. Ladyflickerflacker, a winning Forestry mare who has already produced a stakes horse, gave birth to a filly at Gainesway Farm on Jan. 28.
Not to be outdone, Shimmering Tale, by Wild Again, produced a colt that same day. According to his breeder, the Shimmering Tale colt is a “big, strong colt, with a lot of leg and bone. We are very pleased with him.”

Tapwrit was purchased for $1.2 million at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Yearling Sale, and went on to set a new stakes record in the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby before clinching the Belmont Stakes by the highest Beyer Speed Figure (103) in the past ten years, save for American Pharoah.
By leading sire Tapit, Tapwrit is out of G1 Spinaway Stakes winner Appealing Zophie, who has produced multiple graded stakes horses.
Tapwrit stands at Gainesway for $12,500.
