Keeneland November Day Six Shows Across-the-Board Increases

A weanling colt by Trappe Shot sold to Baccari Bloodstock for $200,000 and a weanling colt by Hard Spun purchased by McMahon & Hill Bloodstock LLC, agent, for $195,000 highlighted a day of brisk trading during Sunday’s sixth session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

Across-the-board gains for the session, the second of two sessions in Book 3, included gross sales of $13,986,500 for 275 horses sold, marking a four percent increase from the corresponding day last year when 276 horses brought $13,435,500. The average of $50,860 was 4.48 percent above last year’s $48,679, while the median of $42,000 rose five percent from $40,000 in 2013.

Cumulatively, Keeneland has sold 1,321 horses for $180,429,500, a six percent increase in total sales compared to figures from the same point of the 2013 sale when 1,339 horses brought $170,456,700. Average price of $136,586 and median of $75,000 both are seven percent above the respective amounts of 127,301 and $70,000 last year.

Four Star Sales, agent for Glencrest Farm, consigned the top-priced weanling colt, who is out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Irish Lullaby. She is a half-sister to Grade 2 winners Imperative and Battle Won and stakes winner Nadeshiko.

Gainesway, agent, consigned the $195,000 weanling, a son of the winning Smart Strike mare Smart Farming. The colt is from the family of Grade 2 winner Dream About.

Three mares each sold for $190,000, the third-highest price of the day.

Kern/Lillingston Associates paid $190,000 for Gainful, an 8-year-old daughter of Gone West in foal to First Defence. Consigned by Mill Ridge Sales, agent, Gainful is out of the Irish River (FR) mare Fully Invested and from the family of European champion Commander in Chief and English champion Warning (GB).

Landslide, a 3-year-old mare by More Than Ready in foal to Mineshaft, sold for $190,000 to New Zealand Bloodstock Ltd. Gainesway, agent, consigned Landslide, out of the stakes-winning Afleet mare The Administrator and a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Saint Marden, stakes winner Sweet Lips and Kentucky Derby (G1) runner-up Nehro.

Warrendale Sales, agent for Live Oak Stud, consigned Queenofperfection, in foal to To Honor and Serve and sold for $190,000 to Siena Farms LLC. A 4-year-old daughter of Arch, Queenofperfection is out of the Gone West mare Gone Purrfect, a full sister to champion and Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) winner Speightstown.

For the session, J D R Farm spent $512,000 on four horses to lead all buyers.

The leading consignor was Taylor Made Sales Agency, which sold 38 horses for $2,311,000.
