Keeneland Day 3: Prices trending higher
A $1.2 million Bernardini filly and a Megaglia d'Oro colt selling as part of the Edward Evans dispersal helped drive healthy average and median prices during the third session of the Keeneland September yearling sale in Lexington.
More than two-thirds of the way through the first day of Book Two, 136 of 225 horses had sold, with the session topper being a Bernardini filly out of the Smart Strike mare, Silk 'n' Sapphire. The filly went to Benjamin Leon Jr.'s Besilu Stables for $1.2 million. The next highest price was $510,000 - an Awesome Again colt sold by Taylor Made to Bluegrass Hall, LLC.
A Medaglia d'Oro colt that sold for $470,000 to agent Mike Ryan was part of the dispersal of the Edwards P. Evans estate, with Lane's End acting as consignor.
The gross receipts through hip number 436 were $22,945,000, with the average price of $168,713 and median of $135,000 well on pace to top last year's day three. For last year's complete third session, the average price was $133,784, and the median was $97,500. Gross receipts totaled $27,292,000 in 2010 on day three.
Book Two encompasses three days of the sale and Tuesday's session includes more than 300 yearlings on offer - hip numbers 212 through 523. The Paulick Report will provide periodic reports on the results throughout the day.
