Top California stallion Bertrando retired from stud duty

Leading California sire Bertrando has been pensioned and will return to Martin and Pam Wygod's River Edge Farm where he previously stood.  The 22-year-old stood 2011 at Ballena Vista Farm.

Bertrando produced 494 winners from 714 starters.  His progeny earned more than $40 million during his 16-year stud career.

“I am glad that Bertrando is coming home to spend the rest of his days with us,” Russell Drake, farm manager of River Edge, tells the Blood-Horse. “He was a great sire that provided River Edge with many stakes winners. He remains one of my favorite horses of all time because of his wonderful demeanor and his productivity.”
