Woman Hoping to Raise $10,000 To Aid Injured Mare

A Mitchell, Neb. woman is hoping to raise $10,000 to aid a retired Thoroughbred mare with a prosthetic leg.

According to a story by the Associated Press, Karma was in training for polocrosse in 2012 when she suffered a life-threatening injury to her left front hoof. To save her life, her hoof was amputated, and the mare now wears a prosthetic boot in its place. However, now Karma is having problems with the prosthetic: her boot doesn't fit well, causing abscesses on her stump.

“She is in need of a new prosthetic leg that fits better with a deeper cup,” said Thea Cross. “We are reaching out to the community for support and collaboration in giving her the best chance we can by raising funds for a new prosthetic leg.”
