Breeders’ Cup In Play For Saffron Beach After Prix Rothschild Victory by Paulick Report Staff|08.02.2022|11:32am Saffron Beach after winning the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot Saffron Beach and jockey William Buick were dominant winners of Tuesday's Group 1 Prix Rothschild at Deauville, convincing trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam that a trip to Kentucky for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf is not out of reach. The 4-year-old daughter of New Bay, racing for owners Ben Sangster, James Wigan and Ollie Sangster, crossed the line 2 1/2 lengths clear of rival Tenebrism. “She's very brave, very tenacious and probably been better here than she was at Royal Ascot,” Chapple-Hyam told racingpost.com. “They came to challenge her and she found another gear and went away so that's nice to see. We're very pleased because we were giving 7lb to younger rivals.” Saffron Beach earned her first top-level win in last year's Sun Chariot Stakes, and was also an impressive winner at Royal Ascot this year in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes. The filly has also already traveled overseas, finishing fourth in the UAE's Group 1 Dubai Turf earlier this year, so Chapple-Hyam believes traveling won't be an issue. “She's maturing now,” Chapple-Hyam continued. “As a younger horse she always had a travelling companion in the horse box with her and now since Dubai she's grown up. She can travel on her own now which makes the job easier for me.” Overall, Saffron Beach has six of her 11 career starts for earnings of $793,851. Read more at racingpost.com.
