The Chosen Vron Ruled Out Of Breeders' Cup Sprint
The reigning California Horse of the Year, The Chosen Vron will not make a highly-anticipated start in this year's Breeders' Cup Sprint, XBTV's Zoe Cadman reported via Twitter on Tuesday.
A 6-year-old son of Vronsky trained by J. Eric Kruljac, The Chosen Vron won last year's G1 Bing Crosby at Del Mar before ultimately finishing fifth in the Breeders' Cup. This year, the chestnut gelding went undefeated in five starts, including a repeat in the G1 Bing Crosby, before finishing second by a neck to Raging Torrent in the G2 Pat O'Brien.
The Chosen Vron has recorded five breezes since that runner-up performance, including a four-furlong move in 48.80 seconds on Oct. 19 at Santa Anita. The gelding then appeared on the California Horse Racing Board's vet list on Oct. 21, with the cause listed as "unsoundness."
Co-owner John Sondereker told the Daily Racing Form: “Yesterday, the Breeders’ Cup vet came out and put him on the vet’s list. I went up and talked to them today. I wanted to know what the story was.
“They thought the horse was off. There is not much you can do. It’s a shock.
“It’s a shame, really. That kind of call is judgmental.”
