Broken Dreams takes Senator Ken Maddy Stakes at Santa Anita
Broken Dreams scooted through on the rail late to capture the first graded stakes race of the Santa Anita fall meet - Friday's Grade 3, $100,000 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes on the downhill turf course.
Unzip Me went off as the odds-on favorite but failed to hit the board as Broken Dreams - at 5-1 under Garrett Gomez - and Givine (6-1) came with late runs to take the top two spots. Second choice Tanda finished third, just ahead of Unzip Me. The winning time was 1:12.23 for 6 1/2 furlongs.
Broken Dreams is owned by Glen Hill Farm and was bred in Florida by the owner. Trained by Tom Proctor, she's a five-year-old daughter of Broken Vow, out of the Storm Cat mare, Our Dreamer. The Senator Ken Maddy was her second win in eight starts this year. Unzip Me hadn't finished worse than second in her first five races of 2011, winning three of those.
