Colour Vision beats stablemate Opinion Poll in Ascot Gold Cup
It was a one-two finish for Godolphin in the Group 1 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot Thursday, with 6-1 Colour Vision holding off last year's runner-up Opinion Poll at the wire. There would be no Gold Cup repeat for heavy favorite Fame And Glory, who failed to mount a serious threat in the stretch.
Under Frankie Dettori, Colour Vision quickened in deep stretch to hit the front and was able to fend off the charge of Opinion Poll. The two runners bumped in the final strides, prompting a stewards' inquiry. The stewards ruled there should be no change to the order of finish.
Following his fifth winning ride in the Ascot Gold Cup, Dettori did his patented flying dismount to loud cheers from the Ascot crowd.
