Dual Champion Unique Bella Delivers Medaglia D'Oro Filly

Two-time Eclipse Award winner Unique Bella delivered her first foal Tuesday morning, a filly by leading sire Medaglia d'Oro, at Don Alberto Farm in Lexington, Ky.

Don Alberto Farm announced the birth via its social media accounts.

Unique Bella, a 6-year-old Tapit mare, was a $400,000 yearling purchase by the Don Alberto operation at the 2015 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, and she went on to win nine of 12 starts for $1,272,400.

She was named champion female sprinter of 2017 as a 3-year-old off victories in the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes, the G2 Las Virgenes Stakes and Santa Ynez Stakes, and G3 L.A. Woman Stakes and Santa Ysabel Stakes. Unique Bella earned champion older mare honors the following season with victories in the G1 Beholder Mile Stakes and Clement L. Hirsch Stakes, as well as the G2 Santa Maria Stakes.

Medaglia d'Oro, a 21-year-old son of El Prado, stands at Darley America in Lexington, Ky., for an advertised fee of $200,000.

One of the most prominent sires of runners and auction horses during the past decade-plus, Medaglia d'Oro is the sire of 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, 2018 Canadian Horse of the Year Wonder Gadot, dual Eclipse Award winner Songbird, and international champions Vancouver and Passion for Gold.
