Frankel's First Crop in the Auction Ring
In a story by BBC Sport, Frankel's transition from champion racehorse to sire continues as his first foals, now weanlings, are offered at sales both in England and Ireland and abroad. BBC Sport followed along at the Tattersalls Foal Sale on Friday - some called it "Frankel Friday" - as three of his foals were up for bidding that day.
Of the four weanlings entered for the sale, one was withdrawn, and the others failed to meet their reserve price. "These guys have some beautiful animals but they cost a lot to produce and if their valuation isn't met, they are happy to keep them to race, or maybe bring them back to the sales in the future," said Jimmy George, marketing director for Tattersalls.
Frankel, an undefeated stallion hailed by some as one of the best of all time, stands at Banstead Manor Stud for a fee of £125,000 (US $195,556.25).
