Motion Reaches Training Milestone With 2,000th North American Victory
Trainer Graham Motion saddled his 2,000th winner in North America Tuesday afternoon when Rachel Wall came home victorious in the seventh race at Delaware Park.
Ridden by Julien Pimentel, Rachel Wall was much the best of the three-horse allowance field, taking over after six furlongs to pull away by 10 lengths at the wire. Motion trains the filly for owners The Buttonwood Group.
Motion worked as an assistant for trainers Jonathan Sheppard and Bernie Bond before taking out his trainer's license in 1993. According to Equibase statistics, the trainer has earned nearly $94 million since then.

Among the top horses Motion has trained are Kentucky Derby and Dubai World Cup winner Animal Kingdom, Breeders' Cup Turf winners Main Sequence and Better Talk Now, and Shared Account, who took down the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at 46-1.
"This is very gratifying, not only for me but for everyone who has been a part of this team,” said Motion. “We have some people who have been working with us from the start; I have been lucky to have very loyal longtime owners behind me, and I am blessed to have the support of my family. This milestone is a reflection of all of those people.
"I think it is fitting the win came at Delaware Park since a lot of my accomplishments early in my career were in Delaware and Maryland. Hopefully, we will enjoy many more.”
