New all-weather track at Chantilly passes initial tests
A new all-weather track at Chantilly, France has passed initial tests with flying colors after several trainers galloped their horses over the surface for the first time, reports the Racing Post. The new surface, a classic all-weather track comprised of polytrack, also includes some jelly cable to make it more frost resistant.
"It's the first test, but I'm very happy," said Chantilly Director of Racing Mathieu Vincent. "The next thing is to get some of the jockeys in for their view next Tuesday," he added.
The course, which was constructed inside the existing turf layouts, will be open for training two days a week all year, as well as every day during winter if frost forces the closure of the sand gallops in the forest. The nearest existing all-weather racing facility is at Deauville.
