New Zealand: Owner Of Gingernuts Experiences 'Fainting Episode' When Horse Goes Wrong

New Zealand star Thoroughbred Gingernuts (Iffraaj) was preparing for a start in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes at Flemington when jockey Michael Dee felt the 4-year-old take a bad step.
‘’He was cantering down beautifully then I felt something go amiss,’’ Dee told racing.com. ‘’I felt it happen and then got off straight away.’’
After watching his horse be pulled up, one of the colt's owners collapsed in the grandstand.

‘’It appears he had a fainting episode from what we assume was the shock of the horse being scratched,’’ said John Byrne, health commander of Ambulance Victoria. ‘’But he’s almost fully recovered now and we expect that he will be released under his own steam. He won’t be going to hospital."
Gingernuts' injury is not life-threatening, reported a veterinary release from Racing Victoria. He has been scheduled for surgery on Monday to repair a front leg's fractured pastern.
Once Gingernuts had been attended to, Tosen Stardom went on to win the Emirates Stakes for trainer Darren Weir.
