Bullock, Munger, Christian to be honored at Emerald Downs
When Emerald Downs in Auburn, Wash. winds up its 16th season of Thoroughbred racing Sunday, special awards will go to jockey Lance Bullock and trainers Don Munger and Billy Christian, according to the Auburn Reporter.
The 19-year-old Bullock will receive the Lindy Award, voted by jockeys and presented for accomplishment and sportsmanship throughout the season. Munger, 87, and Christian, 33, will be co-honorees of the Martin Durkan Award, chosen by Director of Racing Bret Anderson and staff and honoring trainers that exhibit leadership, cooperation, sportsmanship and excellence on and off the track.
Bullock, who has ridden 12 winners in his inaugural Emerald Downs season, hails from a leading Northwest racing family. Munger, also an owner and breeder, this season compiled an 8-21-16 record in 106 starts. Christian, who enjoyed one of his best seasons with seven wins, was instrumental in helping fill early season races.
