Jockey Martin Garcia, who has been based in Southern California for many years, will soon be changing circuits and will ride in New York.

The Daily Racing Form reports that Garcia will begin riding at Aqueduct Nov. 15. Business has been slow in California for Garcia; during Del Mar's summer meet, the rider had just three wins from 40 mounts, while at Santa Anita he went winless in 16 mounts.

Garcia told the Form that Tony Micallef will be his agent in New York.

“When you want to go to another level I think it's best to make a little change,” Garcia told the DRF. “Learn from other people, other jockeys. I'm going to work hard, and Tony is going to help me. I know some owners and trainers that will help me, too.”

Garcia added that he planned on talking to Bob Baffert about his decision, and he hoped that the trainer would understand.

“I think he will understand,” Garcia said. “Sometimes I have to do things for myself.”
