Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course has announced that Dan Silver has been appointed Director of Racing Operations effective Monday, October 22.

Mark Loewe, currently Vice President of Racing operations for Hollywood Casino, will be continuing with Penn National Gaming's racing division in a new role to be announced shortly.

Silver's new role will have him managing the racing and pari-mutuel operations at Penn National Race Course, including its four off-track wagering facilities and eBetUSA/Telebet account wagering operation.

Silver, 32, has spent the last five years working for The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), which operates Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, and Saratoga Race Course. He joined NYRA as the marketing communications manager in January 2008 and was promoted to Director of Communications and Media Relations in April 2009, a role he has held since.

“Dan is one of the growing young stars in the racing business and we think he will be a great addition to the strong foundation that Mark has helped create over the past two years,” said Frank Quigley, Vice President and General Manager of Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course.

Silver has an undergraduate degree from Haverford College, along with graduate degrees from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism and the University of Arizona's Race Track Industry Program (RTIP).

In 2010, he was named one of the 40 next generation of racing industry leaders under the age of 40 in a special “40 Under 40” feature that ran in the Thoroughbred Times.    He currently serves as a Vice President of the Turf Publicists of America and is on the Advisory Council of the RTIP.

“I am very excited to join the terrific team at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course,” said Silver, a native of Philadelphia. “I believe that my experiences at NYRA will help me continue the progress being made in the racing program at Penn National on a number of levels, and I am looking forward to the opportunity.”

In a separate release, the New York Racing Association had this to stay about Silver's appointment.

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) congratulates Dan Silver on his new position as Director of Racing Operations at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course, which was announced today.

“NYRA's communications department in print, broadcast, and social media is unparalleled in the industry, and we owe that to Dan Silver's journalism and leadership skills and to his passionate dedication to thoroughbred racing,” said NYRA President and COO Ellen McClain.  “We will all miss Dan's contributions and we wish him great success at Penn National.”

Silver, 32, joined NYRA as Marketing Communications Manager in January 2008 and became Director of Communications and Media Relations in April 2009.  He holds a B.A. from HaverfordCollege and master's degrees from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and the Race Track Industry Program at the University of Arizona.
