A group of friends that organizes an annual charity fundraiser that's tied in with the Kentucky Derby received 'payback' for their good deeds in the best possible way on Derby Day – they hit the Derby superfecta.

The Louisville Courier-Journal reports that for the past six years, Soozie Eastman and some of her friends have hosted the 'Unbridled Eve Gala' at the Galt House on Derby Eve. The event raises money for such organizations as Blessings in a Backpack. On Derby Day, Eastman and her friends spend the day at Churchill Downs.

As they do every year, the friends go in on several betting tickets on the Derby. Eastman told the Courier-Journal the superfecta bets this year included 18 shares at $100 per share, with some of the shares divided among couples and friends.

According to Eastman, the superfecta picks were “all done by computer, and it was in our favor. We had 1,800 picks of $1 tickets.”

Altogether, the group won $151,000 on their Derby superfecta tickets. After taxes, the amount ended up being $53,000, which equaled $2,900 per share.

“The fun thing is they have tried to win for 12 years on $1 superfecta bets and this year it hit,” Eastman said.
