Watermelon Please: Unreachable Star To Reside At Kentucky Derby Museum

Unreachable Star snuggles with trainer Tim Glyshaw.

The leading Indiana-bred money-earner, Loosen Up Stables' (David Osborne et al) Unreachable Star has been scheduled to become the Kentucky Derby Museum's newest resident thoroughbred in 2016. The 12-year-old gelding boasts a record of 17-11-9 from 64 starts, including seven Indiana-bred stakes victories.

Unreachable Star was trained throughout his career by Tim Glyshaw and amassed career earnings of $784,595 over those many years on the Indiana racing circuit. Unreachable Star was voted 2009 Indiana Horse of Year and earned four consecutive titles for Indiana's Older Sired Horse of the Year in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. The tenacious gelding won or placed in Indiana Stakes at varying surfaces and distances for six consecutive years. He won the Brickyard Stakes in back-to-back years 2009 and 2010, was a fierce annual contender in the Gus Grissom Stakes – winning it twice in 2008 and 2012 and finishing second three times. And, Unreachable Star tied a record of three wins in the William Henry Harrison Stakes in 2009, 2011 and 2013.

“Starman” retired from racing in 2014 with a soft tissue injury in his left front leg, and has since been turned out at managing partner David Osborne's Deerfield Farm in Prospect, Kentucky. The personable gelding will greet visitors to the Kentucky Derby Museum beginning early next week, and will look forward to getting one of his favorite treats – a watermelon.

A rotating schedule will ensure that Starman does not get tired of the Churchill Downs surroundings at the Kentucky Derby Museum. After the first two to three months, depending on how the gelding adjusts, he will be given a break and then return to the museum in the fall.
