Qualifying Contest for NHC to Be Held at Aqueduct on Cigar Mile Day

In addition to being the last day to watch Grade 1 racing in New York, Cigar Mile Day (November 29) will also be the last chance for handicappers to qualify for the National Handicapping Championship at a NYRA track, via a $300 buy-in, live-money tournament.

The centerpiece of the fall meet at Aqueduct Racetrack - the Grade 1, $500,000 Cigar Mile Handicap - will be joined by the Grade 2, $400,000 Remsen, Grade 2, $400,000 Demoiselle, and Grade 3, $400,000 Comely, offering bettors premier racing to wager on.

Of the $300 entry fee, $200 will serve as a bankroll, which competitors may allocate as they wish among Win, Place, Show, Exacta and Trifecta wagering, while the remaining $100 goes to the prize pool - 100 percent of which is returned to the players, with the winner earning a berth to the NHC on January 23-25 at Treasure Island in Las Vegas.

Contestants must wager a minimum of $40 on five separate races at Aqueduct, but may also wager as much of their bankroll as they wish at any time during the contest. Wagers can be placed at any self-service terminal throughout the track.
