Russell Nearing Return To The Saddle
Injured jockey Sheldon Russell could make his return to the races in time for the early part of the Laurel Park meeting next month, according to a Daily Racing Form report. Russell has been out since late April, when his mount fell over a swerving horse.
Russell suffered several broken ribs and a punctured lung. He has been galloping horses since last week but is waiting on doctor's clearance before plotting a date to return to the races.
So far, the top Maryland rider said he's feeling well physically as his workload increases. He's not letting the setback keep him from building condition, either--Russell completed a 10-kilometer road race last weekend.
