2016 California Racing Dates Still In Limbo
Executives with Southern California racetracks and horsemen’s organizations met with the California Horse Racing Board's race dates and stabling oversight committee Wednesday to discuss the 2016 racing calendar.
However, according to a report in the Daily Racing Form, no resolution has been reached. The matter will once again be discussed at the CHRB's full meeting on Thursday at Los Alamitos.
According to the DRF, Santa Anita and Del Mar presented a joint proposal that is similar to the past two seasons. Santa Anita would conduct racing from Dec. 26 to June 30, and Sept. 29 to Nov. 6. Los Alamitos would race from July 1-11, Sept. 8-25, and Dec. 8-18, and Del Mar would race from July 13 to Sept. 5 and from Nov. 10 to Dec. 4.

Los Alamitos presented a 2016 schedule with two four-week racing dates in July and September. Track officials said that the existing two-week meeting in July is difficult to market and that a four-week meeting would be easier to advertise.
