Bill restructuring NYRA passes state Assembly
The New York state Assembly passed the bill proposed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo creating a new 17-member board for the New York Racing Association, reports the New York Daily News. All that remains to make the bill official is for Gov. Cuomo to sign.
Under the terms of the bill, Cuomo will appoint eight of the members of the board and name the new chairman. Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos will each appoint one member and NYRA will have five appointees. The breeders and horsemen associations will each have two members to advise the board on matters but these members will not have a vote.
