Zoning Board to Consider Churchill Downs Seating Improvements
According to a story by the Louisville Courier-Journal, local zoning officials are expected to endorse a $4.2 million plan by Churchill Downs to renovate its prime seating accommodations to provide better treatment for owners of Kentucky Derby and Oaks entries.
The Louisville Metro Board of Zoning Adjustment will hold a public meeting Monday at 8:30 a.m. to consider the track's request. Under an old regulation, Churchill officials must get the zoning board to sign off on all major expansion or improvement plans.
In a letter to the zoning board, the track officials said that the "intent of the project is to provide Oaks and Derby horse owners with a more exclusive VIP experience that will offer them all-inclusive food and beverage, along with both casual and fixed-seating opportunities within the comfort of their own outdoor suite."
