Maryland Jockey Club requests $10 million in assistance for 2012

As part of the 2012 deal approved Tuesday by the Maryland Racing Commission, the Maryland Jockey Club is asking for up to $6 million in slots subsidies to operate live racing at Laurel Park and Pimlico Race Course.

The deal also calls for the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association to contribute $4 million to the MJC.

"Based on today's projections, I believe we'll need the state subsidy and the horsemen's contribution to reach a break-even point," Jockey Club President Tom Chuckas told the Baltimore Sun.
