TVG to present extensive Woodbine coverage
Toronto’s Woodbine Racecourse will be the center of the North American racing universe this weekend, with five graded stakes, including three Breeders’ Cup Challenge races, and TVG, America’s Horseracing Network, will be on site to present exclusive, live coverage.
Headlining the action will be Sunday’s Grade I, $1 million Ricoh Woodbine Mile and tomorrow’s Grade II, $250,000 Summer Stakes Presented by TVG. The winner of the Ricoh Woodbine Mile, a turf race for horses three-and-up, earns a free trip to the TVG Breeders’ Cup Mile, while the Summer Stakes presented by TVG, contested by two-year-old fillies on the turf, sends its champion to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. Post time for the Woodbine Mile is scheduled for 5:42 p.m. ET, with the Summer Stakes presented by TVG slated for 5:09 p.m. ET.
The Ricoh Woodbine Mile will be simulcast on Sun Sports and Sports South.
The network will air a one-hour Ricoh Woodbine Mile preview show tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET. The preview show will have multiple re-airs over the weekend.
Hosting the coverage will be TVG’s Todd Schrupp and Simon Bray, with Woodbine’s Jeff Bratt adding his expertise on the Preview Show. Jim Bannon and Sandy Hawley will join Schrupp and Bray on Sunday’s telecast.
Joining the Summer Stakes presented by TVG on tomorrow’s schedule is the Grade II, $200,000 Natalma Stakes, a one-mile turf race for two-year-old fillies, with the winner securing a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.
Sunday’s program also features the Grade I, $500,000 Northern Dancer and the Grade II, $300,000 Canadian Stakes. The Northern Dancer is a 1 and 1/2 mile turf race for horses three-and-up, while the Canadian Stakes features fillies and mares age three-and-up going 1 and 1/8-miles on the turf.
“We are thrilled to present this great weekend of racing from one of our valuable racetrack partners on an exclusive broadcast basis,” said Tony Allevato, TVG executive vice president. “With three starting spots in the Breeders’ Cup awaiting three of the winners, there will be a lot on the line, and TVG will deliver that action from all angles.”
