Bal A Bali Sprints To American Stakes Victory

Bal a Bali surged late to win the G3 American in his US debut

In his first stateside start, highly-regarded Brazilian import Bal a Bali burst through horses for an eye-catching score in Saturday's Grade 3, 100,000 American Stakes at Santa Anita.

A champion and Triple Crown winner in Brazil, Bal a Bali is owned by Fox Hill Farms and Siena Farms LLC. Richard Mandella, who has trained South American imports to graded stakes victories before, trains the 5-year-old horse. Bal a Bali has won twelve of his thirteen starts.

Flavien Prat kept Bal a Bali off the pace, then the pair split horses and were in the mix at the top of the stretch. Under steady urging, Bal a Bali kicked away from rivals, sailing under a wire for a comfortable victory over Talco and Gabriel Charles. Final time for the turf mile was 1:35.69.

Haras Santa Maria de Araras bred the son of Put It Back out of In My Side (Clackson).
