Giant Ryan headed for surgery in Pennsylvania
Giant Ryan, who was injured in the True North Handicap at Belmont Park Saturday, will be taken to the New Bolton Center at the University of Pennsylvania for surgery in the hope of repairing the horse's ankle and saving his stallion prospects.
The 6-year-old son of Freud toppled in the stretch run of the True North but walked under his own power into the equine ambulance. Later reports said Giant Ryan had fractured both sesamoids in his left front ankle. Giant Ryan is owned by Shivanda Racing and trained by Parboo Bisnath, the connections who won the Woody Stephens Stakes two races later with Trinniberg.
