Hashtag Bourbon Ready for Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity Run by Press Release|09.30.2014|2:35pm Trainer Kellyn Gorder Mountaineer Juvenile winner Hashtag Bourbon completed his major work for Saturday's $500,000 Claiborne Breeders' Futurity (G1) by working a bullet half-mile in :47.20 Monday morning over a fast Keeneland main track. “He worked great yesterday, and I couldn't keep his feet on the ground this morning,” trainer Kellyn Gorder said about the 2-year-old colt by Super Saver. “That was his third work here and Julien (Leparoux) has worked him each time.” Owned by Bourbon Lane Stable, Hashtag Bourbon comes into the Claiborne Breeders' Futurity off a third-place finish in the Iroquois (G3) on Sept. 6 at Churchill Downs going 1 1/16 miles. “He broke well that day, which he had not done in his first two starts,” Gorder said. “He had the one hole and he was a little keen and he wound up with horses all around him and (jockey) Brian (Hernandez Jr.) had nowhere to go. “It wasn't Brian's fault. He couldn't take back and get out. He was finally able to push out at the eighth pole, but he had too much to do.” Before Hashtag Bourbon makes his run Saturday, Gorder hopes to get the 17-day Fall Meet off to a flying start Friday when he sends out 2012 Super Derby (G2) winner Bourbon Courage in a Friday allowance race. “We are going to try something different with him and cut back to 6½ furlongs,” Gorder said of Bourbon Courage, who turned in a best-of-five three-eighths move in :35.20 on Monday. Bourbon Courage, who also has placed in six graded stakes, will be making his first start since finishing sixth in Pimlico Special (G3) in May. Bourbon Lane also owns the 5-year-old son of Lion Heart.
