Reactions from horsemen mixed on post time changes, cancelled card at Churchill Downs
Horsemen at Churchill Downs have had mixed reactions to the recent changes track management has made regarding the moving of post times and the cancellation of the Thursday race card due to the high temperatures.
Most horsemen agree that moving the first post to 6:30 p.m. on the final three days of the meet was a smart move. However, their reactions on the decision to cancel Thursday's program have run the gamut, from disappointment to anger. This feeling was especially prevalent for those that had horses entered on the Thursday card.
“I love the change to 6:30,” trainer Steve Asmussen said. “But canceling the Thursday is a decision made by people who aren’t feeding racehorses. More importantly, I wonder if any of them were feeding a horse that was in Thursday.”
