Weemissfrankie puts in key work for Oak Leaf
Del Mar Debutante winner Weemissfrankie worked five furlongs in 1:00 under exercise rider Paul Toscano at Santa Anita Saturday, reports Steve Andersen of Daily Racing Form. It was her final workout before her start in next Saturday’s Grade 1 Oak Leaf Stakes – the leading California prep for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.
Although Weemissfrankie’s only two career starts have been on Del Mar’s Polytrack, trainer Peter Eurton feels she has made a successful transition to the dirt at Santa Anita.
“I feel comfortable because my rider is comfortable with her,” Eurton said on Saturday, referring to Toscano. “He loves the way she gets over the dirt. I feel she’ll handle the distance and the surface if she’s the way she is today.”
