American Pharoah's Triple Crown sweep resulted in horse racing's first Sports Illustrated cover story since Mine That Bird won the 2009 Kentucky Derby at odds of 50-1.

Erick Rasco, the deputy picture editor for Sports Illustrated, shot the photo. An article on magazine's website describes how Rasco captured the photo, which was shot as American Pharoah neared the finish line at Belmont Park.
