Breeders' Cup Runner Up Donna Veloce May Target Grade 1 Starlet Stakes
Making just her second career start, juvenile filly Donna Veloce turned in an impressive runner-up finish by a neck in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies earlier this month at Santa Anita. According to drf.com, the Kaleem Shah-owned daughter of Uncle Mo may make another start this year in the G1 Starlet at Los Alamitos on Dec. 7.
The filly broke her maiden in her first start in late September, winning by over nine lengths. In her first work since the Breeders' Cup, Donna Veloce covered a half-mile at Santa Anita in :50.20.
“She came out of the Breeders’ Cup really good, obviously,” said trainer Simon Callaghan. “It’s like a gallop for her. I told Flavien (Prat, jockey) it’s better to go too slow than too quick.”
