Broken Vow Weanling Filly Tops Ninth Session Of Keeneland November Sale

Weanlings brought eight of the 10-highest prices recorded Wednesday during the ninth session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, led by the sale of a daughter of Broken Vow to Hidden Brook, agent, for $110,000.
Bedouin Bloodstock, agent, consigned the filly, whose dam, the Curlin mare Whirl, is a half-sister to multiple Grade 2 winner Strike a Deal.
On Wednesday, Keeneland sold 228 horses for $3,952,400, down 9.35 percent from the ninth session in 2016 when 229 horses grossed $4,360,300. The average of $17,335 was 8.96 percent below last year’s $19,041. The median of $12,000 was up 4.35 percent from $11,500 in 2016.
Through nine days of the 12-day sale, Keeneland sold 1,962 horses for $197,734,300, down 5.10 percent from the same period in 2016 when 1,924 horses brought $208,371,300. The average of $100,782 declined 6.94 percent from $108,301 in 2016, while the median of $45,000 remained unchanged.
Two weanlings sold for $100,000 each, the day’s second-highest price.

Madison River Thoroughbreds paid $100,000 for a colt from the first crop of Tapiture out of the Distorted Humor mare All About My Girls. Consigned by Hunter Valley Farm, agent, the colt is from the family of champion filly Halfbridled.
A filly from the first crop of Summer Front brought a final bid of $100,000 from James Layden, agent. Out of the Majesticperfection mare Majestic Smile, the filly is from the family of recent Buffalo Trace Franklin County (G3) winner Morticia. She was consigned by Brereton C. Jones/Airdrie Stud, agent.
Mary and Maria Haire paid $75,000 for the top-priced racing or broodmare prospect, Reality Queen, a 2-year-old filly by Pioneerof the Nile from the family of Grade 2 winners Teeth of the Dog and Funistrada. Bluewater Sales, agent consigned Reality Queen, whose dam is the graded stakes-placed Pulpit mare A. P. Reality.
Korea’s K.O.I.D. was the session’s leading buyer, spending $204,000 for 12 horses.
With sales of $377,400 for 29 horses, Select Sales was the leading consignor.
