'He’s Left More Winners Than Any Other Stallion': More Than Ready Says Goodbye To Australia
Few, if any, stallions have had the kind of impact as a dual-hemisphere shuttler seen by More Than Ready, who recently completed his final Southern Hemisphere breeding season in Australia before shipping back north to WinStar Farm in Kentucky for the rest of his stud career.
A feature by TDN Australia/New Zealand reviewed More Than Ready's stud career in Australia, where he has sired 719 Australian winners, including 68 stakes winners, since arriving for his first Southern Hemisphere season in 2001. He spent 18 consecutive seasons at Vinery Stud near Scone, Australia, covering over 2,200 mares in addition to his Northern Hemisphere duties.
He was brought in by Vinery as an outcross for the abundant presence of Danehill, and he became the only horse to earn leading 2-year-old sire titles in both the U.S. and Australia. Among More Than Ready's most notable Australian-sired runners are Golden Slipper winners Phelan Ready and Sebring, and Group 1 winners More Joyous, Samaready, Prized Icon, and More Than Sacred, among many others.

“We’ve seen many, many, many stallions shuttle to Australia and New Zealand over the last 30 years and none have reached the heights that he has,” Vinery nominations and sales manager Adam White told TDN Australia/New Zealand. “He’s left more winners than any other stallion, I think Danehill is a 100 or so behind him. He’s currently fifth on the all-time list of stakes winners behind Sadler’s Wells, Galileo, Danzig and Danehill. It’s a bit sad that he won’t be coming back, but we’ve been lucky to have had him for these last 18 seasons.”
