Rushing Fall Dashes Wide Late, Gives Brown Fourth Juvenile Fillies Turf Win
Rushing Fall (More Than Ready) wins the Juvenile Fillies Turf. (G1) Javier Castellano up, Chad Brown trainer, Five Racing Thoroughbreds owner.
Rushing Fall lived up to her name with a late run to win the Grade 1 Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar on Breeders' Cup Friday under Javier Castellano. The Chad Brown trainee sat mid-pack, just off the rail and to the outside of Best Performance for much of the contest in a tightly-bunched field, staying out of a contentious fight for the lead going into the first turn. Castellano swung at least six wide on the final turn and chased down Significant Form despite Rushing Fall being late to change leads. The pair drew away at the wire by three quarters of a length over runner-up Best Performance. September (IRE) was third.
Favored Happily (IRE) finished last.
Brown, Castellano, and owner eFive Racing Thoroughbreds teamed up to win last year's edition of the race with New Money Honey. Brown, the only trainer to win it more than once, has now won four editions of the Juvenile Fillies Turf.
Rushing Fall came to the Juvenile Fillies Turf undefeated, having won her maiden start at Belmont Park in September and the G3 Jessamine at Keeneland. She was bred in Kentucky by Fred Hertrich III and John Fielding.
"Javier (Castellano) rode a great race," said Brown. "The key was going out of that post and getting a spot in the first half of the field which he accomplished. From there, with a nice pace in front of us, he was comfortable where he was and he moved when he felt the time was right. She has a devastating move when you turn her loose.”

Castellano said he was confident about his chances in the race after riding the filly in her prior two career starts.
"The way she performed at Keeneland, it was real soft ground, and you don't see too many fillies perform that way," said Castellano afterward. "The way she closed, I felt so confident we'd win the Breeders' Cup."
The 2-year-old daughter of More Than Ready is out of Forestry mare Autumnal, and was a $320,000 purchase at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling Sale. Mike Ryan purchased the filly, who was consigned by Taylor Made Sales.
Bob Edwards of eFive Racing expected the filly will go next to Ocala for a break over the winter.
eFive Racing officially launched in August 2015 and experienced success quickly with New Money Honey. Edwards is the owner of e5 Pharma, a pharmaceutical company for pets. eFive Racing is also a co-owner, along with Stonestreet, on Juvenile hopeful Good Magic.
