Snow Forces Mendelssohn To Change Plans In Quest For Derby Points
A snowstorm in the British Isles has forced trainer Aidan O'Brien to rethink the next start for G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf winner Mendelssohn, who had been aiming to start a Kentucky Derby trail bid in the Patton Stakes. The March 2 card at Dundalk in Ireland has been called off due to weather, forcing Mendelssohn and two other O'Brien trainees to start instead at Lingfield on March 3.
The Patton was part of the European Road to the Kentucky Derby point system. The Spring Cup Stakes, where Mendelssohn will run instead, is not.
Now, the only available points race in Europe this weekend will be the Road to the Kentucky Derby Conditions Stakes at Kempton Park, where Phoenix Thoroughbreds runner Gronkowski is favored.

It's possible weather conditions still may impact racing at one or both facilities.
